Christine Bar L'Helgouac'h
About her:
Christine Bar L'Helgouac'h is a senior scientist in ARVALIS – Institut du Végétal, leading a research group focused on “storage and quality of cereals and potatoes” in Boigneville. This team is working on the characterization of technological, sanitary and nutritional quality of the production and the cultivars and on the relationships between the environment (agronomical practices, climate) and the quality to develop tools to predict and manage the quality of the harvest. The group is also involved in storage research field to develop, among others, solutions to manage insects without insecticide product. The department develops multidisciplinary approaches with the aim to improve the safety and nutritional or functional properties of the final products in response of the consumers and the market’s needs.
Christine Bar L'Helgouac'h obtained an engineer’s diploma from the Agronomy school of Montpellier and after gaining first experience in managing the state laboratory of control of the cereals quality for export (Rouen, Fr), she joined ARVALIS to work on the technical quality of cereals for human consumption. In 2007 she then moved to take the lead of the quality department of ARVALIS.
About her talk:
"Consideration about wheat milling, from a consortium to the first test on a new laboratory tool"
How to predict wheat behavior during milling by observing wheat behavior at the laboratory level ? Today, most users consider extraction rate as the most important parameter. Our data will show that wheat with very different behaviors can present the same extraction rate, behaviors which can badly affect the industrial process.
